Guided tour: Gustav Vigeland's Artist Home

The exhibition Gustav Vigeland. The Home as a Work of Art highlights Vigeland's interest in the home and craftsmanship. In this context, there will be daily guided tours of Vigeland's apartment throughout the summer.

In 2024, it will be 100 years since Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943) moved into his new apartment in Frogner, together with his wife Ingerid Vigeland. When it was decided that the municipality of Oslo would build a studio and future museum for the sculptor in 1921, it was also determined that he would get an apartment in the same building. The apartment is located on the museum's third floor and is about 300 square meters.

When Vigeland moved in, he wanted to leave his mark on the apartment. He decided on all the details, from the colors on the walls to the choice of furniture. Additionally, he designed much of the interior himself: wrought iron lamps, candlesticks, rugs, cushions, and pictures on the walls. Ingerid embroidered and wove several of the textiles. The apartment can be seen as a gesamtkunstwerk and is an important part of Vigeland's legacy.

If you want to secure a ticket, we recommend booking in advance. The ticket includes entrance to the museum. The tours are conducted in English, but in Norwegian if the group allows. The tours start promptly, and there is a maximum of 15 people per tour.

When booking a companion ticket, you must present a valid companion certificate upon arrival.
